Steve, I remember that you left the HP about 1986 for a position with Business Week in Mexico City.

How's the book coming along?

I will have the good fortune of listening to Carolyn Cole speak at the Southwestern Photojournalism Conference in Ft. Worth on Feb. 24.

I, too, have often wondered about Julie Klein. I have a recollection that she left the Herald-Post about 1987 for a staff writing position at People magazine.

I've been doing a lot of HP catching up. Had dinner with Thaddeus Herrick in New York a couple of weeks ago. He's in Houston with the Wall Street Journal. Then last week in Denver I had a nice steak dinner with Keith DuBay, who's editing ColoradoBiz online. I'd link to it, but can't figure out how to in this blog format. (http://www.cobizmag.com/articles.asp?search=archives&id=1476). I also see Carolyn Cole fairly often. She's in NYC for the L.A. Times. I see Peter Copeland from time to time in Washington. Anyone heard about Julie Klein? I can't find her online.

OK, good, except now I'm on the list twice. Oh, well. I guess so we can all see each other's posts, we should go to new posts at the top of the screen instead of Comments?

Plans are not going as well as I'd hoped by this point. I simply can't get back to El Paso to do all that needs to be done. I hope people who can pitch in will do so quickly, as time is running out to have a nice gathering at least. It doesn't look like the two-day event we'd originally envisioned is going to work out. The most I'm looking at now is informal drinks and/or dinner on Friday night and a trolley ride and dinner and a DJ and an hour's worth of open bar somewhere on Saturday.

I'm having a family member look into deposits etc. on some places, then we'll figure out how much tickets should cost and how many we need to sell before we lock in the place. Thanks.

So, I was happy to see John Hopper, HP photog until 1987, at the wedding of former EP Times shooter Joe Cavaretta in Santa Fe in Sept. 2006. John looks great, he has been with AP since '87. First in Mexico City and now in Los Angeles.

John was very supportive and helpful to me when I was just a young pup intern. I remember that he would shoot the El Paso Diablos baseball games at Dudley Field from the grass by the home team's dugout, usually from a folding chair he'd pulled from the stands. His trademark was his ever-present cowboy boots.
